Little impact in 4 hurdles starts last season. Undoubtedly stands more chance now handicapping off a basement mark but would need to see market support to consider.

Verdict

Gunner Lindley would hold obvious claims if coming back to form following a below-par effort at Kelso last time, while Hey Bob shaped with plenty of encouragement when third here recently and remains on a decent mark. However, marginal preference goes the way of Tim Easterby's DANCE AND ROMANCE, still lightly raced and making her handicap debut from a lowly mark.

Verdict

HI BOB has a very mixed record overall but starts out for new handler Kenneth Slack from a basement mark and might be worth chancing given his trainer's fine record with new recruits. Dance And Romance appeals as a possible improver now handicapping under Brian Hughes, while Hey Bob was placed over C&D last time and is likely to be in the shake-up if turning up in similar form.

Verdict

Kim Bailey looks to have another interesting recruit on his hands in the shape of THUMB STONE BLUES, an Irish import who won a Kilbeggan bumper across the water and was also placed in a couple of maiden hurdles. He should be good enough to make a winning start on these shores and can see off recent C&D runner-up Shanroe In Milan and Carlisle second Dick Darsie.

Verdict

No depth to this and a potential match between THUMB STONE BLUES and Shanroe In Milan, the former taken to make a winning start for new connections.

Lightly raced and struggled to hold his form for Robert Bewley. Best watched on stable debut.

Verdict

ON THE ROAD took another step up the ladder when extending his winning run to four at Exeter last month. Evan Williams' charge is actually only 1lb higher now switched to fences and is fancied to maintain his progression with another victory. Darsi Dancer had been in good form prior to disappointing last time, while What A Game might be able to prove best of the rest.

Verdict

ON THE ROAD has to prove his stamina for this trip now tackling fences, but he's a most-progressive hurdler and is a fair way ahead of his mark, so there's no real reason to look elsewhere. Fellow chase debutant What A Game is feared most given the rest have plenty to prove.

Became disappointing for Keith Dalgleish and he's offered little on both starts for new yard this summer.

Verdict

A lot depends on how much ability Spiculas retains after over two years on the sidelines and, if he does, he looks fairly handicapped on his novice hurdle form. Preference, though, goes to THE CHARACTER, who hasn't looked back since his hurdles debut and has won two on the bounce at Bangor and Musselburgh. He makes his handicap debut now and could well be open to further improvement. Lightening Rod is respected having been dropped 3lb since his last start.

Verdict

SPICULAS was a progressive novice hurdler when last seen in 2014 for Keith Reveley and is potentially well treated on his belated return now handicapping for a yard that continue in fine form. The Character appeals most of the remainder, though any market support for Bank Bonus on debut for Brian Ellison should be noted.

Without worthwhile form since 2014, offering little in pair of comeback outings over hurdles in recent months. Placed in point earlier in career but would need to see market support to consider.

Verdict

HALCYON DAYS was thwarted in his bid to land a double when runner-up over 2m1f at Musselburgh last time but lost little in defeat in finishing second behind subsequent winner Thankyou Very Much, who struck again at Leicester on Thursday to frank the form. Distant Rain advertised his well-being when second at Towcester last month and commands respect while 5lb ahead of the assessor. Yourholidayisover is also well in, despite racing from out of the handicap.

Verdict

DISTANT RAIN got worn down up the Towcester hill on his chase debut last week but went for a long way like a horse ahead of its mark and can gain compensation assuming a third run in quick succession doesn't catch up with him. Yourholidayisover was runner-up off effectively 3 lb higher last week so rates an obvious danger, while Halcyon Days has been consistent in similar events of late.

Has taken well to hurdling, winning twice at Carlisle in recent months, looking more straightforward than has sometimes been the case when scoring by 14 lengths over this trip latterly.

Verdict

Donald McCain landed this last year and looks to hold the ace in the pack once more with DERINTOHER YANK fancied to defy top weight and complete a hat-trick. He has conditions to suit once more and a 3lb rise for his most recent success looks fairly lenient. Kim Bailey does well at the North East venue so any market support for course winner Royal Supremo needs to be noted, while Justforjames is a consistent type and one to keep an eye on now making his debut for Micky Hammond.

Verdict

Course bumper winner ROYAL SUPREMO did it nicely on hurdling debut at Uttoxeter in May and is taken to make the most of the weight he receives from dual Carlisle scorer Derintoher Yank. Justforjames also has the form to figure on his first run for Micky Hammond but the best of it in Ireland came when faced with a greater test of stamina than he'll encounter here.
