Verdict

MORE BUCK'S has returned from a break in fine order, winning two of his last three starts over fences and hinting last time, when striking over 2m5f at Fontwell, he could benefit from a step up to 3m to try continue his improvement. Should the selection be found wanting for stamina, Dreamsoftheatre could be the one to pick up the pieces - he's only 1lb higher than when striking over this distance at Bangor in May. The consistent Azure Fly could also take a hand.

Verdict

MORE BUCK'S is by far the least exposed of these and has made a promising start over fences, so this strong-travelling type very much stands out in this line-up. Azure Fly has his quirks, but has put 2 solid runs together since returning from a break, so is feared most ahead of Dreamsoftheatre.

Verdict

DINO VELVET shaped with promise in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham last time and could have finished on the premises had he not tumbled at the last that day. If none the worse for that mishap, he could improve with the run behind him and find what is needed to score. Imari Kid is considered the pick of Gary Moore's trio, though the main danger may be Dan Skelton's Montrachet Mix, who is out of a French hurdles/chase winner.

Verdict

DINO VELVET showed plenty of ability on hurdling debut in a Grade 2 event at Cheltenham last month, likely to have finished third had he completed, and he is very much the one to beat with that experience under his belt. Any market support for Dan Skelton's debutant Montrachet Mix would look significant, while Imari Kid is also worth a mention.

Should have won at Wetherby last month, travelling well but idling markedly once in front. Not in quite same form when third at Chepstow since and hardly one for maximum faith now chasing.

Verdict

A return to further should play into the hands of Brian Ellison's VOLVALIEN, who was driven out powerfully to win easily at Sedgefield when last seen in October. The seven-year-old has only gone up 5lb for that win and the booking of Aidan Coleman suggests that a fair effort is anticipated. Antartica De Thaix was giving away a mammoth weight to On Demand four weeks ago but arrives here on more reasonable terms, while Jaboltiski probably needed the run last time out and arrives here on a 5lb lower mark over the bigger obstacles.

Verdict

Those with experience over fences hold an advantage given the tricky nature of the course and VOLVALIEN looks the most solid option having won on only his second start for this yard at Sedgefield last time. Antartica de Thaix makes most appeal out of the chasing newcomers.

Placed twice from 3 starts in points. Well held in bumpers but fair form over hurdles. Out of depth in this grade, though.

Verdict

Ballyandy should be suited by an increase in trip but he was slightly disappointing at Cheltenham last time out and perhaps he can be taken on at short enough odds. Connections reportedly think plenty of MESSIRE DES OBEAUX and he couldn't have been much more impressive when getting off the mark for Alan King at Bangor last month. King won this prize last year with a half-brother to the selection, and the full brother to Bouvreuil has plenty of scope for improvement. Cultivator completes the list of likely contenders for a yard that won this in 2014 with Vyta Du Roc.

Verdict

The obvious one is Champion Bumper winner BALLYANDY, who receives weight from most of his rivals and is sure to build on his promising start in this sphere now upped in trip. There's plenty of potential among the opposition, headed by Messire des Obeaux and Apasionado.

Verdict

RED DEVIL STAR was never able to land a blow at Wincanton with Sirabad going well clear of his rivals and dominating but this looks an easier task for a horse going the right way over fences. Gores Island is entitled to improve for his return at Plumpton and the drop in distance should prove no issue, while Upsanddowns has every chance on his second at Worcester in September.

Verdict

GORES ISLAND shaped well on return from 7 months off at Plumpton recently, finding only another well-treated sort too strong. He gets the nod given he ought to strip fitter, though Red Devil Star and the potentially chucked in Greywell Boy also demand a good deal of respect.

Fair winner on the Flat for Jim Bolger, but hard to make a case for him on what he's achieved over timber so far.

Verdict

UTILITY won in the style of a horse that looks capable of a lot more at Chepstow when easing clear of his rivals and an opening mark of 118 may just underestimate his ability. The son of Yeats is taken to reverse Southwell form with Hag Stone with the pull at the weights to his advantage, while Major Mac won a non-event at Newbury early last month but looks able to step up on that effort.

Verdict

Last-time-out novice winners UTILITY and Major Mac are expected to come to the fore, especially as they possess persuasive form from other codes (former a fairly useful bumper winner, latter fairly useful on the level). Marginal preference is for Jonjo O'Neill's 5-y-o, with Vivas perhaps the pick of the remainder.
