Verdict

This often proves to be a good maiden and there are certainly some likely types on paper. John Gosden takes the wraps off Azam, a Derby entrant who cost connections 260,000 guineas, while Eminent, a son of Frankel, and Beach Break both boast smart pedigrees. Fellow newcomer Solo Mission might want further in time but is another to keep a close eye on, although previous experience can often prove so telling in these events and Taj Mahal and OKOOL set a pretty stiff standard. The former travels across from Ireland following a string of solid efforts in defeat but the latter makes more appeal having caught the eye when flashing home for fifth in what looked a hot maiden at the Leger meeting a fortnight ago. Following his debut fourth at Haydock, Alqamar is another worth considering.

Verdict

TAJ MAHAL sets a high standard while his experience should also count for plenty. Okool, Alqamar and Poseidon all shaped much better than the bare result on their debuts, while Azam makes most appeal of the newcomers.

Progressive to date, picking up a Haydock maiden on the way, but a remote fourth to Rodaini in a listed race at Doncaster hasn't done his mark any favours, so will need a more marked step up now.

Successful twice in AW nurseries at up to 8.6f, but seemed beaten on merit at Windsor in what was a weaker race than this.

Verdict

Red Ensign disappointed when fancied for a Listed race at Haydock but the ground had turned very testing on that occasion and having been so impressive when winning at Kempton previously, he could well get involved now back on a decent surface. Haulani looks a colt heading firmly in the right direction having won his last two in fine style, while Berengaria could have more to offer despite failing to fire last time. However, FLY AT DAWN was unbeaten until finishing third in a Kempton conditions race last time but that had the look of a hot contest and he might still prove better than a handicapper.

Verdict

RED ENSIGN looked a highly-promising sort when readily accounting for a next-time-out winner at Kempton last month and it's easy to put a line through his underwhelming subsequent run on testing ground. He's expected to get back on the up and resume winning ways at the expense of Fly At Dawn and Haulani, both of whom have plenty of potential in their own right.

Half-sister to useful winner up to 1¼m Queen of The Sand and smart 1¼m/11f winner Rydan. Similar profile to Highland Pass in that she showed ability on debut, but needs to improve a chunk.

Verdict

HIGHLAND PASS was thrown in at the deep end on her Kempton debut, taking on a couple of previous winners, but she still acquitted herself really well in the circumstances to finish fourth. A half-sister to Elm Park, another who did very well for the stable, she is entitled to have learnt plenty from that initial experience and looks worth chancing. Unforgetable Filly built on her promising debut run when scoring in fine style at Lingfield and warrants obvious respect along with the experienced Storm Cry, who finished second in a valuable nursery at Doncaster last time.

Verdict

An intriguing clash of maiden, nursery and pattern-race form lines, with the style of UNFORGETABLE FILLY's maiden win preferred to the substance of Urban Fox and Storm Cry on this occasion.

$1,150,000 War Front colt. Confirmed debut promise with smooth success in Naas maiden and has to be respected given connections.

Verdict

All eyes will be on Escobar who made it two from two when easing away from a solid yardstick at Newbury last month. He looks a smart colt in the making but takes on some classy types here, not least Larchmont Lad who only narrowly went down when bidding for Listed honours at Doncaster. Aidan O'Brien brings over Naas maiden winner Whitecliffsofdover and he makes obvious appeal along with SIR DANCEALOT. David Elsworth has assembled a nice bunch of juveniles this season and his charge took another step up the ladder when landing a strong race at Kempton last time. He should have plenty more to offer and looks worth sticking with.

Verdict

ESCOBAR looked destined for a grade even higher than this when easily winning a listed event at Newbury and can stretch his unbeaten record to 3. Whitecliffsofdover and Larchmont Lad may emerge as the biggest threats.

Verdict

Sir Fever is interesting on his UK debut for Charlie Appleby and if ready to roll following a 544-day absence he should take some stopping on the pick of his form in Uruguay. He performed admirably in defeat in a Listed contest at Meydan two starts back, but this is tough ask going up to 2m for the first time and he could be vulnerable conceding race-fitness to his rivals. Seamour is very much a player having ran second in the Northumberland Plate and Mallard Stakes this term and joins Goldmember on the shortlist. SHE IS NO LADY was backed for the Ebor Handicap as though defeat was seemingly out of the question last month, though, and although a disappointing effort needs to be improved up on here she should appreciate the step back up in trip.

Verdict

SHE IS NO LADY disappointed when gambled on for the Ebor but she was only just denied at this level at Sandown prior to that and can bounce back with a bang. Seamour can fill the runner-up spot again, though Sir Fever is a potential fly in the ointment.

AW winner at Lingfield in March who didn't need to improve on a string of consistent effort to resume winning ways at Newmarket (July, 12f) last time. Feasible to think this will prove tougher.

Verdict

APPEARED ran too bad to be true when last sighted over the distance at York in May and perhaps such a disappointing effort can be put down to the fact it came so soon after he'd won on the Knavesmire just 10 days earlier. Freshened up following a break and still open to further improvement off a mark of 91, Roger Varian's horses are back firing on all cylinders and he can get the better of the progressive Higher Power, rapidly-improving William Hunter and unexposed colt Frontiersman.

Verdict

Everything about FRONTIERSMAN suggests he is at least a smart performer in the making, a half-brother to Australia who looks far from the finished article and is bound to be suited by the step up to 12f, so he's taken to come out on top in what looks an excellent race on paper, with Appeared, Higher Power, William Hunter and Man Look all going the right way in general.
